Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are fresh off the $100m+ comedy hit This is The End and they have started directing their next film The Interview in Vancouver this week. Though the pair have a long screenwriting history, The Interview is written by Dan Sterling (The Office). The film stars Rogen along with Lizzie Caplan (Party Down), Timothy Simmons (Veep), and Randall Park (Veep, The Five-Year Engagement). Oh, and an obscure actor some of you may have a passing familiarity with named James Franco. I think that he and Rogen may be acquaintances of some sort.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the film revolves around a handsome talk show host (Franco) and his producer (Rogen) who find themselves in way over their heads when they get involved in a plot to assassinate the prime minister of North Korea (Park).” Caplan and Simmons will play CIA partners, according to Gotcha Movies.

Simmons and Park have done great work on Veep and Caplan is killing it right now on Masters of Sex on Showtime (and continues to remind us why Party Down was such a great series). Franco and Rogen seem well cast in the lead roles and I’d certainly expect this to be be on the action-farce vein of the pair’s hit Pineapple Express. Filming in Vancouver with a relatively inexpensive cast indicates that Rogen seems to have learned a thing or two about making movies and that a medium budget suits him better than blockbusters would (thank you, Green Hornet).
