Ron Burgundy Scotch, Rolling Stone Cover, ESPN Gig Cancelled
Today in the news we have a Ron Burgundy product tie-in, a Ron Burgundy promotional appearance, and a Ron Burgundy publicity stunt. In other words, it’s Thursday.
First up is an opportunity to purchase your very own Ron Burgundy Blended Scotch Whiskey - Great Odin’s Raven. Yes, you too can drink your scotch like everyone’s favorite newsman, Ron Burgundy. The scotch is imported by Riviera Imports, according to The Huffington Post and based on reports from Spirits Business should be available now in stores in the USA and Canada, and coming to the UK next month.
Meanwhile, a more traditional outlet to promote your movie is with a cover interview with Rolling Stone magazine. Such is where we find this footage of Will Ferrell prepping for the photo shoot. Director Adam McKay noted that comedy sequels are typically not very successful, saying “The second Austin Powers is pretty damn good, and Wayne’s World 2 is a lot of fun. Men in Black is one of my all-time favorites, but MIB II was pretty tough.” There’s certainly pressure on the team, with Paul Rudd noting “”The difference with this one is I’m aware that people are watching us. The first one, no one cared.” All of which explains why Ferrell and company have been pushing so very very hard to promote the movie. The Rolling Stone issue with Will Ferrell is on iTunes and newsstands on December 6.
(some longtime visitors to the Frat Pack Tribute media empire might notice the audio clips in the video below. They’re from the Apple suite and we used them once or twice on our Frat Pack Podcast back in the day).
Lastly, today was supposed to feature another publicity stunt with Ferrell and Anchorman costar David Koechner delivering sports news on ESPN. That appearance has been shelved due to the breaking news out of Florida related to Florida State Quarterback Jameis Winston. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the segment has been cancelled, though Ferrell will be interviewing Peyton Manning for ESPN The Magazine.
And if you’ve read this far and have no idea what upcoming movie we’re talking about, it’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Coming to theaters on December 18. It’s kind of a big deal.
