Paul Rudd Hosts SNL, Joined by Anchor Team
Paul Rudd hosted Saturday Night Live for the third time last night. The show’s cold open featured SNL vets Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen but the key celebrity cameo occurred during the show’s opening monologue. Rudd made reference to the popularity of the show’s musical guest, One Direction. After the boy band appeared on stage, Rudd called on his “man band” for backup. Thus, Rudd’s Anchorman costars Will Ferrell, David Koechner, and Steve Carell came on-stage. Rather than fight, Rudd suggested they work together to entertain and then “Nine Direction” sang an abbreviated version of “Afternoon Delight” made famous by the first Anchorman film.
Ferrell and Koechner are both SNL vets and appeared again later in the show for a Bill Brasky sketch written by former SNL head writer and Anchorman writer/director Adam McKay.
There is additional coverage and video clips of the show below, which drew higher rating than the last original episode with Catching Fire costar Josh Hutcherson.
