Rebel Wilson is joining the cast of Night at the Museum 3, according to Deadline. The Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect actress is set to play an English security guard is what might be a similar cameo role to Jonah Hill’s or co-lead as with Amy Adams in the second installment of the family comedy series. Ben Stiller will topline the cast again, along with returning actors Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Robin Wilson, Ricky Gervais, and director Shawn Levy (Date Night, The Internship). Script is from  Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant and David Guion & Michael Handelman.

The third film is set in a British museum and other announced cast members include Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens. Skyler Gisondo will be replacing Jake Cherry for the role of Stiller’s son Nick Daley.  Filming is expected to start in February for a December 2014 release, so additional cast members and cameos may come to light in the upcoming weeks.

The first Night at the Museum film was a fresh holiday hit in 2006 with $574 million in worldwide grosses. The sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian was released in 2009 and saw grosses drop domestically and internationally to a worldwide total of $413 million. Additionally, the sequel was critically less received than the original. Nonetheless, the studio feels the franchise still has interest from families and fans of Ben Stiller. The international appeal for Stiller does appear to be a major factor, as demonstrated by the strong $70 million international gross for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (compared to $50m domestic), with additional countries still to come. The family adventure film Gulliver’s Travels did huge business internationally and is another corollary.

  4. Allright Kevin, thanks for your answer. My - let’s call it obsession - with the Frat Pack goes back to 2006/2007 where a connection between movies like Wedding Crashers, Anchorman, Zoolander, Dodgeball or Starsky and Hutch became obvious to me but i didn’t know the term Frat Pack yet. That’s when I found out about your site and the certain articles about which gave it a name. Since then I spread the word over here too, sort of like a secret-brotherhood like religion. Since then I visit your site daily in hope for some new content. Last week we and Paramount published a meet-and-greet together with Will Ferrell, who promotes Anchorman in Munich right now. Maybe we could do some cooperation too, like you posting something on our facebook wall or me sending you some content for you site (remember our profile picture https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=465065910240499&set=a.136274036453023.36024.136270356453391&type=1&theater!)? I’m looking forward to your response and I will certainly take part at your annual earmuff awards.. Best regards, Toby
