‘Zoolander 2′ Confirmed for February 2016 Release
After months of rumors, Zoolander 2 was official confirmed with an appearance by Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson at Paris Fashion Week. The stars appeared in character as Derek Zoolander and Hansel, running the runway at the Maison Valentino show and posting for a photo for Stiller’s Instagram account. Later, Paramount tweeted that the release date for the film is February 16, 2016.

Some details are unclear. Tropic Thunder cowriter Justin Theroux has been tapped as the primary screenwriter for several years and was once in line to direct. However, that’s not clear at this point and it’s possible Stiller will helm the film. Reports indicated that filming would take place in Italy this spring, and Stiller’s social media accounts have included numerous posts from Italy in recent weeks.
Casting is also unclear. Will Ferrell has stated that his character Mugatu will appear, and it seems that Stiller’s wife Christine Taylor should be easy to cast, but formal casting was not announced. Previously Jonah Hill had been mentioned as a potential costar, playing Mugatu’s son. However, given Hill’s increasingly busy and high-profile workload that seems less likely than the rumors from a couple years ago. Penelope Cruz was mentioned as having been cast in the film several months ago.
Zoolander was released in 2001 and was a key foundation of the Frat Pack association of comedic actors. In addition to Stiller, Wilson, and Ferrell, Vince Vaughn famously appeared in a silent cameo as Derek Zoolander’s brother.
