The Frat Pack Tribute Earmuff Awards - 2007

2007 Earmuff Award Nominees

Earmuffs Honor Judd Apatow’s Productions with 15 Awards

Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up was the big winner at the 3rd Annual Frat Pack Tribute Earmuff Awards, according to earmuffawards.com creator Kevin Crossman. The pregnancy comedy won seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Seth Rogen), Best Supporting Actor (Paul Rudd), Best Supporting Actress (Leslie Mann), Best Catch-Phrase, and Best Use of Drugs/Alcohol.

The Earmuffs honor movies and projects related to The Frat Pack, the unofficial nickname for the comedy trouple that includes Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Owen and Luke Wilson, Jack Black, and Steve Carell.

Apatow has a long association with the group, starting with The Ben Stiller Show in 1992. Apatow wrote and directed Knocked Up, and produced two other Earmuff-winning movies in 2007. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story won five awards, including Best Actress (Jenna Fischer), Best Performance by a Frat Pack Friend (John C. Reilly), and Best Hair. Superbad won three Earmuffs including Best Character, Best Sound-Bite, and Most Promising Newcomber (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).

Will Ferrell had another big year at the Earmuffs, winning three awards. His ice skating farce Blades of Glory, produced by Ben Stiller, was three awards including Best Scene-Play, Best Visual Effects, and Best Costume Design. Ferrell’s viral-video hit “The Landlord” was a winner in the Best Multimedia Feature category and shared the award for Best Catch-Phrase. Ferrell also earned two Earmuffs alongside Jack Black and John C. Reilly for their “Comedian at the Oscars” song from The Academy Awards.

The Frat Pack are known for their cameos and 2007 was no exception. Jack Black earned another Earmuff alongside Paul Rudd, Justin Long, and Jason Schwartzman with their Beatles cameo from Walk Hard. Steve Carell won the Best Celebrity Cameo by playing himself and spoofing his nice-guy image in Knocked Up.

Comedian Andy Dick was celebrated with a Lifetime Achievement Earmuff. Dick was a cast member on The Ben Stiller Show and has remained active as a Frat Pack Friend. He appeared in past Frat Pack productions including Old School, Zoolander, and Bongwater. In 2007 he appeared in Luke Wilson’s Blonde Ambition and his 2006 directorial debut, Danny Roane: First Time Director, was released on home video. Roane included cameos from Ben Stiller and Jack Black.

The Earmuff Awards were announced on a special episde of The Frat Pack Tribute’s Podcast. Presenters on the awards ceremony included Frat Pack Tribute editors and podcasters from That’s What She Said, Filmspotting, Five Hundy by Midnight, The MacCast, and Typical Mac User. Judd Apatow’s excellent 2007 continued as his productions dominated the nominations for the Third Annual Frat Pack Earmuff Awards, presented by The Frat Pack Tribute at www.TheFratPack.com. Knocked Up, written and directed by Apatow, garnered a leading 27 nominations in the awards voted on by Frat Pack fans. Apatow produced the next two most nominated films, the teen comedy Superbad and the musical biopic parody Walk Hard; all three of these films were nominated for Best Picture. Apatow’s wife Leslie Mann recieved a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Knocked Up and Apatow himself was nominated for a Best Multimedia Feature for his work in the web video, “The Backlash.”

Jenna Fischer garnered three nominations in major categories, including Best Actress for Walk Hard and Best Performance by a Frat Pack Friend for her work on The Office. Fischer also received a nomination for her supporting role in Blades of Glory, a film that garnered a Best Picture nomination and 17 nominations in total. Paul Rudd and John C. Reilly led all individual nominees with five nominations in total, though both included shared nominations with other actors. Past Earmuff winner Will Ferrell was nominated for four awards and his breakthrough viral video “The Landlord” is nominated for three awards. Superbad’s Jonah Hill also received four nominations including Best Actor and Best Frat Pack Cameo.

The Earmuff nominations also honored projects that were less successful at the box office. Owen Wilson’s The Darjeeling Limited garnered the fifth Best Picture nomination, and Ben Stiller’s The Heartbreak Kid received three nominations including Best Sex Scene.

A new category was added to the awards this year, Most Promising Newcomer. The nominees for that category included double-nominee Christoper Mintz-Plasse and Emma Stone from Superbad, along with musician Jack White for his cameo as Elvis in Walk Hard and director Adam McKay’s daughter Pearl from “The Landlord.” Judd Apatow’s daughters also received a nod in this category for their memorable turns in Knocked Up.
